Leon Morin, Pretre DVD

'Léon Morin, Prêtre' Director: Jean-Pierre Melville (1961) French w/ English subtitles

Set in occupied France a Marxist young widow (Emmanuelle Riva) visits the town's priest (Jean-Paul Belmondo) in confession and tries to provoke a reaction from him. This begins a series of discussions covering faith and politics. Her soul in torment she feels herself drawn by the consolations offered by religion or is it the priest himself who represents the prospect of relief? Intriguing, emotionally charged drama.
