Based on Georges Arnaud's 1950 novel of the same name and critically hailed upon its original release, The Wages of Fear propelled director Henri-Georges Clouzot (Diabolique, La Vérité and Le Corbeau) to international fame and inspired a remake from William Friedkin in his 1977 film Sorcerer.
